Kanjincho-The Subscription List-is a famous Kabuki play.
It based on the noh drama “Ataka”.
This event happened at Ataka ,Komatsu city.
Yoshitsune Minamoto overthrewed the Heike .
However, Yoshitsune was chased by Yoritomo ,his elder brother.
Yoshitsune and his retainer escaped and reached at the barrier-station of Ataka.
At Ataka, Togashi, the barrier-keeper took a chance on catch Yoshitsune.

"Who are you?"

"We are wandering Buddhist monks."
"Then, show me the Kanjincho."

Benkei reads a blank scrool.

"You resemble Yoshitsune."

"We are always in the trouble because you resemble Yoshitsune."

Benkei beats Yoshitsune ,but he cries within his heart.

Togashi was moved by their behavior and let them pass .

We can see BUSHIDO spirit from this drama.

In some versions of the legend of Togashi and Benkei have a drinking party afterward.
